Celebrating Piracy-- Way to go, DA

Fri Nov 13, 2009, 7:09 PM
So I don't write much, but this bugged me. I got an announcement in my inbox for the Shepard Fairey contest, something about Love unites etc etc. . .

First, Lemmee say I got nothing against state-recognized unions between two adult mutual consenting members of the same sex. Go for it people-- and send me pix! lol.

However, I also believe that if the people of any state or locality vote against such recognition, that should be respected just as much as those places that vote for it. If you don't like the laws of the community, move.

So, that said (and my own inner hentai revealed). . .

I have a problem with DA partnering with Shepard Fairey. This is the guy who became a name when he made the Obama "HOPE" poster. A nice work, very valuable to that campaign. One problem:

IT WAS A PIRATED PIECE!

This guy took a copyrighted image from an AP photo (The AP has sued him about this), tweaked the colors, and viola! HOPE!

I really, really don't like that DA is partnering with a man made famous for what amounts to plagiarism. Not to mention, the guy's a bit of a hypocrite himself when it comes to people using his images is the way he used that photographer's image. As the man says, read the whole thing:

Yeah, so this is irritating to me.

  • Listening to: the TV
  • Reading: Meditations on the Tarot
  • Watching: the fraggin' computer screen

Thanks. :) I had a great canvas to work with, Greece is just an amazing place its dynamism shows well.

By the way, I love your dragon! ^____^

You know, that was supposed to be a throwaway piece, something to be my ID, and an early experiment with my tabled and Painter 11. But you're the second to fav it, and the third or fourth to comment on it.

funny how that works. Glad you like it!

^_^
:iconesprice:
Isn't it funny how that works with all types of art? You just never know I guess.
:iconliyian:
lol, yup, though I use this more for stalking :iconshadow2k: than posting my own work. Heh.

How're you?

lol. I'm good. . . as I writie this, I'm on break from a class at Ft. Belvoir, VA. I'd rather be drawing. Or writing. . . oh well. . . Didja get to Otakon this past weekend? I didn't T_T
:iconliyian:
Nope, and I'm rather glad I didn't. There were people there I didn't want to see, and I had loads of fun hanging out with a few friends on Saturday night instead.

I take it it's not a fun class? :(

Well, it's a rather dry subject matter. Useful, but dry. Good instructors, but all the way down in Ft. Belvoir. Looong drive there, looooong drive back, everyday.

*is tired*
:iconliyian:
Oooh, that doesn't sound like much fun at all. D: I'm sorry. How much longer does it last?
